Got the jacket in the mail. I have a Spyder hardshell that has five years on it and it's time to put it away as it's getting quite worn from use. I really like Spyder but decided to give Descente a try and the price was right. It's tough to find a good selection of Descente gear that's 50% off so I am gla I found this place.

The jacket itself is very lightweight and has a soft texture to it. It is a bit stretchy and kind of resembles a hydrbid between a hard and soft shell jacket. I haven't tried it on the snow yet but it seems like it will be adequate for most situations outside of extreme cold. I prefer layering anyways as I dislike the bulk of most insulated jackets. The addition of a fleece midlayer should be adequate for the extreme cold days. This jacket is NOT bulky and that's good. Range of movement is very nice and the fit is close without being tight. Very soft feel to the inside as well and it reminds me of the feel of a chamois or suede jacket.

The buttons and zippers are constructed very well. I noticed the zip-off hood is easy to zip back on -- this can be tricky with some brands. The jacket also looks pretty slick. I am not a big fashion guru and am not real into 'dressing up' to go skiing but this jacket definately looks nice in the blue color I got. It has an athletic cut to it and is not boxy like a lot of brands. A lot of jakcets out there have a generic cut that makes it appear like you are wearing a paper bag. The only thing I would watch out for is if you have a large frame or mid section -- this wouldn't be the best cut of jacket as it is relatively form fitting. It would probably work functionally, but it might look a little odd if you have a serious beer belly.

Bought this jacket late January of last season, so got 8 days in it at Vail. Great looking and great performing jacket. The stretch fabric is very comfortable and less restrictive, and allows a closer, more streamlined and attractive look than most other bulky or sloppy looking jackets. Warmer than the modest-looking insulation might lead you to believe. Lots of good features with pockets, etc. Also much more exclusive looking than others such as Spyder, which is everywhere now, and has lost its cachet. And I don't think Descente is much, if any, more expensive than most similarly featured Spyder gear.

Great jacket, a bit pricey, but very light, and truly looks top-shelf. The fit is ideal for skiing, as the material is a bit stretchy, so the cut is a little closer than cheap brands. You can see and feel the quality of this piece in person. Has top notch hardware and snaps. Descente (like spyder) is one of the very few brands where the clothing holds its cut and doesn't sag after a couple hard seasons.
