Colorado Native Bruce developed his love for the mountains at Eldora and Winter Park and was hanging around the Christy Sports in Boulder as a Jr. High kid. He tossed his skis for a snowboard in 1986 and never looked back. After attending Western State College in the 80’s, Bruce moved full time to Winter Park in 1992 and has been selling and renting equipment most of that time. “I like to think of myself as semi-retired.”
Bruce is an anomaly among snowboarders; he rides the moguls at Mary Jane 4-5 days a week. Being in the snowboard industry for 20 years he has seen the gimmicks come and go; now they are coming round again. “Baseless bindings are coming back as well as day glo!! Step-ins will return!!! “
- Bruce is Store Manager at PowderTools board shop in beautiful downtown Winter Park, Colorado.
Maka Kalai grew up surfing in Hawaii which led to snowboarding for 15 years. Maka started with Christy Sports in 1999 while living in Steamboat and riding 100 plus days per year. He now manages the Fort Collins store and still gets 40 to 50 days of riding in per season.
Maka’s love the outdoors and he has helped him tackle several board sports. He enjoys wake boarding in the summer where he works on the same inverted moves that he practices in the mountains during the winter.

David moved to Winter Park, Colorado in 1991 to work in one of our shops and ski as much as possible. After two years of Mary Jane and Berthoud pass he set his sights on college and decided on Western State College in Gunnison, Colorado. The decision was based just as much on Western’s proximity to Crested Butte as its stellar academic programs. Although not consecutive, in only a short 5 years he received a Bachelor’s degree in Geology/Anthropology and an Associates of Crested Butte. After moving to Denver for a graduate IT program he gave the “real job” a shot. It did not take long to realize that his heart and mind belong in the sport/industry that has held his interest for so long. In his 7th year with Christy Sports he is now the Manager of our online retail operations.
During the winter you will find David skiing most of the time at Winter Park and Loveland with an annual trip(s) to Wolf Creek. Last year he hit the snow jackpot at Wolf Creek with 49” of snowfall in three days during January. Quoting David, “It was unreal. Forget the snorkel…are you for SCUBA? If you haven’t been to Wolf Creek, get there before the impending pillage, sorry village. It will not be the same.”
